Categories chosen from evidence
We look at the categories chosen by the map leaders for your key searches, then settle on a main category and a few extras that fit what you genuinely do, with no stretching.
In Thunder Bay, Ontario, a large share of local searches are really questions about time. Google’s suggestions include “thunder bay walk in clinics open sunday”, “thunder bay dentist open saturday”, “barber thunder bay open now” and “thunder bay restaurants open late”. Each is answered by a short stack of pins showing hours and stars, and plenty of people choose right there without opening a single website.
That puts weight on details owners tend to enter once and forget. Hours have to be right for every day of the week, for statutory holidays, and for winter days when a storm sends everyone home early. The city averages 162.9 cm of snow a year; a closure that never reaches your profile sends people out on bad roads to a dark window, and they remember it.
The map also serves people who do not know the city at all. Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre treats patients from a catchment of about 250,000 people, and the airport handled 728,077 passengers in 2024. Searches such as “thunder bay hotels near hospital” and “thunder bay hotels near airport” come from visitors steering by the map alone, so your pin, photos and directions have to make sense to a stranger.
Search demand
Google.ca suggestions from October 2026. Each modifier points at a profile detail that has to be correct before any ranking work is worth doing.
Count how many of those searches finish with open now, open sunday or open saturday, or point to a place such as Bay and Algoma or the hospital. A profile carrying last season’s hours, or a pin sitting in the wrong lot, misses all of them whatever its rating. So the first month goes into hours, holiday and storm closures, pin placement and categories; work on position comes after.
Check these first
In about the sequence our checks follow.
A good number of searches here ask what is open on a Saturday or a Sunday. If those days are blank or wrong, Google may leave you off the list entirely. Holiday hours belong on the profile before the day arrives, not after a customer complains.
When heavy snow sends you home early or keeps the doors shut, the profile should say so that same morning. Leaving ordinary hours showing invites people out into the weather to find the lights off.
In a plaza or a larger building, Google may drop your pin at the wrong entrance or on a neighbour’s door. Dragging it to where customers really walk in, and adding the unit number, saves a lot of confused phone calls.
A move from the south side to the north side, or a change of owner, often leaves a second profile behind. Reviews divide between the two and Google cannot tell which one is current. The old listing has to be marked as moved or closed.
If your name starts with “Thunder Bay”, some directories mix your details with another business whose name begins the same way. We find those records and correct them, and check that your profile shows an Ontario address and an 807 number.
The work
We look at the categories chosen by the map leaders for your key searches, then settle on a main category and a few extras that fit what you genuinely do, with no stretching.
Regular hours, weekends, statutory holidays, seasonal shifts such as summer and camp-season hours, and storm-day closures posted on the morning you tell us.
The pin set on your real entrance, the unit number in the address, and a description saying which side of the city you are on and which main road is closest.
The front of the building, the door, the parking and the inside, taken in more than one season so a visitor knows the place in January as well as in July.
A simple link or card for asking customers, and a short reply to each review within a few days, written in your own voice.
Suggested edits from the public, freshly created duplicates and sudden drops in calls caught early, before they cost you a busy week.
Done carefully
Standards we apply to every account, set out here so you can check us against them.
A suspended profile vanishes along with its reviews and its calls. No quick gain is worth that.
Shortcuts like padding the name with “Thunder Bay” and a list of services, passing off a house as a shopfront, or handing out discounts in exchange for stars may work briefly; then Google catches up and pulls the listing. Everything we do sits inside Google’s written guidelines, so the gains last.

Questions
Set special hours for that day as soon as you know, then let them lapse. If winter closures happen often, we can agree a quick routine: you send a short message, and both the profile and the website show the change.
Not a public one. Service businesses such as plumbers, snow removal crews or cleaners can hide the address and set a service area instead, for example the city plus Shuniah and Oliver Paipoonge. The area should match where you really go.
Partly distance from the person searching, partly the strength of their profile. Putting their categories, reviews and photos beside yours usually shows which gaps you can close and which simply come down to where each of you is located.
Hold off on making a replacement profile, since duplicates usually deepen the trouble. We pin down what probably triggered the suspension, put it right, then file for reinstatement with proof of the business: a licence, a utility bill in the company name, photos of the sign at the door. How quickly an answer comes back is up to Google.
If you are close to either and it helps visitors find you, a plain sentence in the description is fine. Those words never belong in the business name, which has to match your sign.
No. Your Business Profile is cared for as part of local SEO, and every plan carries it: $300, $500 or $700 per month for Starter, Growth or Pro, billed in CAD, cancel whenever you like.
